One of the most inspiring things about serving our local communities is watching youth step up to help other youth. Over the past school year, we have seen an incredible wave of support directly from the hallways of the school districts we serve—including Pottstown, Pottsgrove, Boyertown, Upper Perk, Spring-Ford, and Owen J. Roberts.
From sports teams running “can-struction” challenges to student councils organizing school-wide collection drives, local students are proving that you are never too young to make a difference. Recently, student groups and dormitory councils at neighboring schools like The Hill School stepped up by organizing dedicated food collections, filling our sorting tables with hundreds of pounds of individual mac-and-cheese cups, granola bars, and fruit pouches.
When students take ownership of combating food insecurity, it does something powerful. It breaks down the stigmas surrounding food assistance and builds a culture of empathy right in the classroom. These student-led drives don’t just stock our shelves; they remind the children receiving our bags that their classmates truly have their backs.
To every student, teacher, coach, and administrator who has organized a drive or challenged another classroom to bring in donations: thank you. You are the living definition of doing everything in love.
